Metro DX Club Officers

METRO DX CLUB MEETING MINUTES – October 16, 2009

President Bob Adamitis, K9MDO called the meeting to order at 7:31 pm and then led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Secretary/Treasurer Jack Nienhaus, W9NJB read the minutes of the last meeting and the Treasurer’s report. These were approved by the members present, who then introduced themselves with name and callsign.

John Holmes, W9ILY gave a contest and DX report:   

Our special event station W9M was operated on October 3^rd and made 113 contacts.  The participation of members could have been better.  We worked only 3 DXCC entities compared to our Special Event in 2005 when we logged 206 QSOs and 20 DXCC entities. This is an indication of the dramatic difference in conditions between 2005 and 2009. A sample of the certificate that will be sent was passed around for the members to view.  

The K4M DXpedition from Midway Island will be operating through Monday and the TX5SPA group will be operating until October 22 from the Marqueses. Other DXpeditions that have concluded recently include TX5SPA (Australs) and 3D20CR ( Conway Reef).

On the contesting scene, Metro had three entries in the CQWW-RTTY this year, W9ILY, AI9L and K9PY, so we qualified for a club entry. Upcoming contests include the Illinois QSO Party on Sunday and CQWW-SSB next weekend.

H&W:  Dot Truhlar, N9ALC continues to have problems with good and bad days.  Jack W9NJB has chest pains on a daily basis.  Roger K9RB will have surgery on his remaining left foot.  The father of N9MKZ, Bob Ellison, has passed away.

Bob K9MDO:  New officers are needed for 2010.  The present officers have been in office for a long time and new people with new ideas are needed to take over to continue to keep this club vibrant and alive.

Article VII – Nomination and Election. The Metro DX Club By-Laws states;

“Nominations and election will take place during the November meeting each year.  The officers elected will take office at the January meeting.”

The membership approved the Ashford House for our January Winterfest Banquet.  K9MDO will make the arrangements for January 15, 2010.

Refreshments this evening were provide by Bob, N9AKR.  Rick W9NKV will furnish refreshments for the November meeting.

The program this evening was presented by Metro club member Jerry Rosalius, WB9Z who had a highly interesting DVD of the K5D Desecheo Island  DXpedition Feb. 12 to 26, 2009 . Jerry was a member of the team and provided much additional information about this huge operation.  The quality and content of the video was excellent.
