METRO DX CLUB MEETING MINUTES – August, 2006
The meeting was called to order at 7:35 PM by V.P. John
Holmes, W9ILY, in the absence of Pres. Bob Adamitis, K9MDO, who is in Florida
visiting Roger, K9RB. The minutes of the last meeting, taken by Walt, KA9CBJ,
were read by Jack, W9NJB, Sec/Treas. The Treasurer’s report was also read by
W9NJB and he commented that the Harris Bank, where the club checking account is,
had sent a notice that effective August 28, 2006, a maintenance fee of $20.00
per month would be charged. K9MDO is working with a friend at the bank to either
cancel the fee or to change the type of account the club has.
It was noted by W9ILY that Metro had a great participation at
the Hamfester’s Hamfest with 12 members there.
New member Bob Berger, N9ORD, got up to introduce himself and
was welcomed into the club by the membership. Members Bob and Dot Truhlar, N9ALC
and W9LNQ, mentioned that their 65th wedding anniversary was on the
19th and were congratulated by the members present. From their still
youthful appearances they must have been teenagers when they married – like
Dot 13 and Bob 15.
W9ILY reported on contests – For the 10 meter 2005 contest,
Metro came in 5th place out of 11 entries. In the 2005 CQWW SSB contest the following Metro members participated; N9ALC, KM9M, KA9CBJ, W9ILY and
K9DXR. Upcoming contests – this weekend – No. Amer. QSO Party (SSB)., the
SARTG WW RTTY contest. A brief discussion was held concerning the recent KH8SI
Dxpedition to Swain’s Island and that log information is now on the Internet.
Four QSL cards and a certificate were received during the month for club station
W9TY operations and were passed around for viewing by the members.
K9RB and N2WB will be attending the September meeting with
N2WB giving us the details of his recent Peter One Dxpedition.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 PM.
The following members were present for tonight's meeting –
N9ORD, N9LAH, K9BWQ, AI9L, AF9H, N9ALC, W9LNQ, K9PY, KA9CBJ, W9ILY, W9NJB.
A DVD entitled FT5XO Kerguelen 2005 was shown. It was very
professionally made and enjoyable to watch. It had great editing and a fast
paced narrative.
Respectfully submitted by Jack Nienhaus, W9NJB, Sec/Treas.
