METRO DX CLUB MEETING MINUTES – October 20, 2006
When the members arrived for the meeting tonight at the Oak Forest Hospital
they discovered that the regular meeting room was securely locked with new heavy
duty doors installed. There was a table and chairs in the lobby so that is where
the meeting was convened. Pastor Kline, KA9CBJ, will investigate and advise.
President Bob Adamitis, K9MDO, called the meeting to order at 7:40 PM. The
minutes of the last meeting and Treasurer’s report were read and approved with
a minor correction to the minutes. The certificate that was presented to N2WB
was for his participation in the 2005 W9TY Special Event.
VP John Holmes, W9ILY, reported on past contests and upcoming ones. In the
2006 ARRL International SSB contest, W9LNQ and WG9J were the only Metro entries,
so there was no Club score as a minimum of three submissions is required. In the
2006 RTTY Sprint, Metro fielded a team named the "Metro Muttz" with
W9ILY, N9LAH, K9PY and N9AKR participating. Our score was 66,013 and, while we
finished fourth from last, we had fun. Upcoming contests are the CQWW-SSB Oct.
28-29, the ARRL November Sweepstakes (CW Nov. 4-6 and SSB Nov. 18-20) and
CQWW-CW November 25-26.
John has purchased a notebook with plastic dividers where he has inserted
interesting QSL cards received from contacts with club station W9TY. The book
was viewed by members present.
New member Bob Masiulewicz, N9AKR, was welcomed to the club by the
membership.
New Business: President Bob, K9MDO brought up that this was the time of the
year to nominate new club officers for 2007. Zig Markowski, KM9M, made a motion
that the present officers, President, Bob Adamitis, K9MDO; Vice President, John
Holmes, W9ILY; and Secretary/Treasurer, Jack Nienhaus, W9NJB, be unanimously
re-elected to lead the club in 2007. The motion was seconded and approved by the
members.
John, W9ILY, advised that he is in the process of obtaining a domain name and
establishing a Web site for the club. It will probably be metrodxclub.com and at
the present time http://home.earthlink.net/~w9ily/metrodxclub will bring up a
Beta site. The Web site will be a "work in progress". Of course our
Webmaster will be John, W9ILY.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 PM and K9MDO and W9NJB had to depart
because Bob had an early AM flight the next morning and Jack had to drive Bob
and Karen to the airport.
The program was given by Dave Alm, WG9J, and entitled "WG9J’s
Tanzanian Safari". Dave and his XYL had prepared a beautiful DVD
presentation of their recent trip and Dave explained the many different
conditions that one finds in Africa, not the least of which is to NEVER get out
of the safari vehicle!
There were 13 members present this evening – WG9J, KM9M, W9ILY, N9LAH,
K9BWQ, W9AEB, W9LNQ, N9ALC, KA9CBJ, K9MDO, N9ORD, N9AKR, W9NJB.
