DX Club Meeting Minutes
April 15, 2016
The meeting was called to order by President Jim Mornar N9TK, with the Pledge of
Allegiance to the Flag at 19:32.
In attendance, besides Jim
were John W9ILY, John K9DRS, Lee WA9LEY, Bob K9CJ, Matt KA9BBQ, Carl K9CS, Jerry
K9PY, Bob N9ORD, Dave AE9IS, Mike K9LSH, Dennis KA9ZZT, Thomas N9IHZ, Phil N9LAH
and Cindy (Phil’s XYL).
OLD
BUSINESS:
Health
and Welfare: Thomas N9IHZ reported he was grateful to be back to virtually normal
following his severe health issues.
DXer N9NS from Indianapolis
passed away April 11th.
Dot N9ALC has been rotating
her home with family members in the area.
The MINUTES as distributed of the previous meeting were moved approved
by K9CJ and seconded by K9PY.
The TREASURERS REPORT was distributed by John, W9ILY. The amount of
$427.42 is available for donations. Income of $190.40 was from dues, split the
pot, K9ILX estate sales and WUST awards. Expenses of $234.98 were incurred for
postage, donations and the web site.
A motion to approve the
treasurer’s report was made and seconded.
WUST
awards: A missing award was replaced for VK2HV.
The Kingman Reef deletion
affected the certificate and those having it previously conformed will be noted
as “The Sweet Sixteen Award”.
The EOC antenna is still on hold pending an antenna decision.
An Antenna without radials is required. The Village will be presenting
the recommendations at an upcoming committee meeting.
K9ILX
Estate: Several items were sold with
Metro acquiring $192.00. Purchasing a memorial brick at ARRL is under
consideration. Besides selling on
the web, the DeKalb Hamfest May 1st. was mentioned as a location to
display the equipment.
The NEXT MEETING will be May 27th due to a date conflict
with Dayton. The suggestion to change the date was moved by N9ORD and seconded
by K9CJ.
K9CJ reported the SDR Radio
project is awaiting parts to be delivered for a demonstration at the next
meeting.
NEW
BUSINESS
The Field Day report was
given. The Tinley Park Mental Health Center will be used as last year with use
of the trailer and generator. A discussion of equipment was mentioned as well as
not violating any ethics donations for the EOC for Field Day. K9CJ will check
with Pat Carr of the EOC. A nice addition to Field Day might be a Flex 6500 with
Maestro remote. N9IHZ volunteered to bring his FT-991.
In answer to a question
concerning the path of the club, YES we are a DX
Club that takes advantage of contests to improve upon our operating skills
and gain additional DX contacts.
NIDXA
has a Skype group that we discussed joining. This will alert us to new DX
activity. A discussion of NIDXA and membership requirements occurred.
The International Vacuum
Tube Museum is looking for donations.
Honorary membership was
discussed. Candidates were suggested and approved with a motion by KA9BBQ and
seconded by KA9ZZT.
The Metro Annual Picnic
is scheduled for August 6th at the QTH of N9LAH.
It was suggested that K9TP again be the chairman.
An invitation to a joint
picnic with NIDXA at the home of Kermit, W9XA, in Batavia has been offered for
August 13th.
General
Discussion:
The September meeting will
be rescheduled so as not to conflict with W9DXCC.
A DXPEDITION Timeline was
distributed as featured in DXWORLD.net and brought to the clubs attention by
N9LAH.
There was a discussion
regarding “sharing” Facebook pages with the Grundy County Amateur Radio
Club. When their page is constructed we can “like” their page, not
“share” it with ours.
If at Dayton, try get
together with other Metro DX Club members.
Future antenna
considerations for Dave AE9IS were discussed.
Following a motion to
adjourn by KA9BBQ and seconded by N9ORD, the meeting was called to a CLOSE
at 20:28.

several video were presented including Christmas Island and VK2GGC working 2015
