METRO
DX CLUB MEETING MINUTES –
December 18, 2009
Tonight’s
meeting was called to order at 7:39 pm by President Bob Adamitis K9MDO after
concluding a ten minute phone call with Roger K9RB who is confined in a Orange
Park, FL hospital with a serious infection in his remaining foot.
K9MDO then led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
He then read the minutes and gave the financial report of the November
meeting. The reports were approved
by the membership.
QSL
cards received by the club were passed among the members present. Most were
from the W9M Special Event station operation. We mailed 14 W9M certificates and
sent 5 by email.
John
W9ILY then gave a DX and contest report. John
was congratulated by the members on his achieving listing on the DXCC Honor
Roll.
Contesting
activity: Three members participated in the NAQP-RTTY in July: K9PY finished
#9 in W9 and #3 in IL, AI9L finished #12 in W9 and #5 in IL and W9ILY/Ø finished
#1 in NE and set a state record for NAQP-RTTY from NE.
In
CQWW-CW, five members participated for our club entry:W9OA, W9ILY, K9CJ, W9PDS
and N9LAH.
WB9Z
made a great showing in CQWW-SSB with 2,144 Q's for the top claimed score on 20M
in the
USA
and #3 in the world!
In
CQWW-160, WB9Z had a outstanding finish as #1 Single Operator SSB in the
USA
and set a new
USA
Single Op record. Jerry won the
USA
plaque for that record finish. Congratulations to Jerry!
Our
Metro club entry in CQWW-160 ranked six from the bottom.
Upcoming
contests are the RTTY Roundup on January 2 and the CQWW-160 CW and SSB contests
on the last weekends of January and February.
Due
to the small number of members present this evening, little of real club
importance was taken up and most of the conversations were about various ham
radio projects, etc. It was
mentioned that the Metro DX Club Winterfest Banquet will be held on Friday
January 15th and that information will be shortly furnished to all
members. We had a great time last year at the Ashford House and I am
certain it will be just as good this time around. Save the date of
January 15, 2010
on your calendar.
Tonight’s
meeting will be the last one for me as Secretary/Treasurer and I want to say
that I have enjoyed working with my fellow officers and club members for all
those years. Jerry Celmer K9PY will
be taking over as of January 1, 2010.
The
entertainment tonight was a very interesting video
entitled “WRTC 2002
Finland
”. World Radiosports Team
Championship is a unique kind of contest and if you are not familiar with it I
suggest you google it and learn more about it.
W9ILY
has the VHS video available to borrow if you wish.
The
refreshments were provided by John,
W9ILY,
this evening.
Members
present this evening were: K9BWQ, N9LAH, W9ILY, W9NJB, K9MDO and N9AKR.
