Metro DX Club Meeting Minutes
October 20, 2017
The meeting was called to order by President Jim N9TK, with the Pledge of
Allegiance to the Flag at 19:30.
In attendance besides Jim were John W9ILY, John K9DRS, Matt K9BBQ, Mike
K9LSH, Mel NE9A, Bob K9CJ, Lee WA8LEY, Bob N9ORD and Jerry K9PY. We welcomed new
member Ron WB9JYZ who was unable to attend.
OLD BUSINESS:
Health and Welfare: Nothing local to report. Carl Smith N4AA from North
Carolina, Editor-Publisher of multiple DX magazines and newsletters passed away
after a recent illness.
The MINUTES of the previous meeting in June were approved by N9ORD and
seconded by K9PY.
The TREASURERS REPORT was distributed by John, W9ILY indicating an income of
$15 from dues from new member WB9JYZ, and expenses of $127.49 for postage, web
costs and ARRL Ham Aid donation. The amount of $245.44 is available for

WUST had no recent activity.
SPECIAL EVENT operation this year was the "First Anniversary of the Cubs
World Series 2016 Victory." Certificates and QSL cards were distributed to
those in attendance who made contact. Thanks to Matt, K9BBQ for his fantastic
artwork.
There were nine operators producing 1,091 contacts including 34 DXCC
countries and 14 zones.
Ideas for 2018 W9C were discussed. Perhaps the COOK COUNTY SODA TAX fiasco?
Recent DX activity of stations worked and soon to be on the air was
discussed. This included 3CØL.
N9TK mentioned the Flex equipment was packed and enroute to South America for
Bouvet operations.
CONTEST RESULTS:
No results other than K9BBQ participating in California QSO Party.
The ILLINOIS QSO PARTY will be Sunday October 22 beginning at 1200.
Recent changes to the ARRL Log submission procedure were described. The new
ARRL log submission deadline will now be five days after the contest ends.
N9TK reminded the members that the N9CT repeater at 442.025 (100 Hz PL, up 5
MHz) is available for DX spots.
NEW BUSINESS
A donation of $100 was made to the ARRL Ham Aid fund for Puerto Rico
communications support activity. This was approved by the membership at the
meeting as moved by N9ORD and seconded by K9LSH. (For a detailed video report,

Elections will occur at our November club meeting.
Donations to DXpeditions were considered. As Baker/Howland Island is a WUST
qualifying location, a motion made by NE9A, seconded by WA9LEY and passed to
donate $100 to the DXpedition.
The Scouting Jamboree On The Air was discussed.
General Discussion was held on a variety of topics. Included was a brief
discussion of future special events to include donation information and possibly
include a cardboard liner in the mailed requests for certificates.
Following a motion to adjourn by N9ORD and seconded by K9CJ the meeting was
called to a CLOSE at 20:22.
After a short break there was a video presentation of 7O6T activation in
Yemen in 2012.
