Metro DX Club February 2022 Meeting Minutes

We continued to meet via ZOOM for the February meeting. Thanks to John K9EL for his help.

The meeting was called to order by our President Jim N9TK. In attendance, besides Jim were K9EL, W9ILY, WT2P, K9CT, WA9GQK, W9KXT, K9GA, KA9IUC, W9JJB, K9MM, W0LEN, K9NB, K9OR, K9LS, W9PDS, KC9EOQ, K9PY, K9NU, K9LSH, NE9A, K9ZO, W9AP, K9DRS, W9EWZ, WA9LEY. 

Some of our attendees were guests.       

HEALTH AND WELFARE  Patrick W9PDS reported that his wife had successful heart surgery and is recovering well.

OLD BUSINESS

MINUTES A motion was made by George K9GA to approve the January minutes. The motion was  seconded by Dean KC9EOQ and approved.

TREASURER’S REPORT  John W9ILY reports that the Club had income of $36.89 which was from 1 dues payment and 3 WUST applications.  Detailed Treasurer reports are filed on our groups.io site.

WUST  John W9ILY reports a big month with 3 WUST applications.

CONTESTS.

KING OF THE HILL  There was no KOH contest for January. The February KOH contest is the ARRL DX CW going on this weekend.

WAE RTTY  Metro had 4 members scoring high in their category. N2BJ #1, W9ILY #2, W9PDS #7 and KC9EOQ #10. Congratulations.

CALIFORNIA QSO PARTY  In our club category, Metro placed 7th.  We had 5 members participate.

DX ON THE BANDS  Conditions are improving.  John K9EL reports that he worked 6 VR2’s on 12 meters long path this morning.  Jerry K9PY worked a 3W with good signals.  Patrick W9PDS just worked his 100th country on 12 meters today.

NEW BUSINESS

WINTERFEST   Our annual event was postponed due to a low turnout and COVID concerns.  We will poll the group and possibly try for Winterfest in March. 

FIELD DAY  Jim N9TK is open to hosting again this year but we are looking to other possibilities as well.  A committee is being set up to discuss this moving forward.

The meeting was adjourned followed by a round table discussion of members’ current activities.

Lots of DX reported on all bands with 12 meters starting to heat up.

The Z21 DXpedition is very active on all bands.

Antenna work.

Getting ready for ARRL DX CW contest this weekend.

Thomas K9LS met up with Jerry WB9Z and Val NV9L at Hamcation.

Other members talked about attending Hamcation as well.

PROGRAM

We were excited to be invited to observe contesting live at Craig K9CT’s superstation during ARRL DX CW.  Thanks to Jim N9TK for his narration and to CJ WT2P for patching in the audio. We got a tour of the station including the lounge area, kitchen, bunkroom and then on to the operating positions.
