THIS WEEKEND IN CONTESTING

This weekend is the JARTS RTTY contest.  John W9ILY reminded attendees to read the rules regarding frequency restrictions.

Also this Sunday is the Illinois QSO party. Please submit your scores under Metro DX Club.                                                                                                                                                                                                          METRO ELECTIONS  Nominations are open for those interested in running for the Club Board.  The election will be in November.

DUES  Dues for next year remain at $15 and can be paid to W9TY via PayPal or via check to the Club address on our website.

SPECIAL EVENT The Club is interested in running another special event station next year.  We talked about a special event commemorating the 1st regularly scheduled broadcast from Chicago in 1922 from the Westinghouse building.  There were sporadic evening hours broadcasts in 1921 but regularly scheduled programming didn’t begin until 1922.  We are potentially looking at Labor Day to host the event.  More info will be announced.

The meeting was adjourned followed by a round table discussion of members’ current activities.

There has been plenty of DX available to work including a few welcome DXpeditions.

Lots of antenna work preparing for the contest season.

K9PY has moved to Oregon  and has joined the Central Oregon DX Club.  We hope to hear him on the bands soon.

John K9EL reminded the group that his TO9W trip is coming up in December.  He held a planning meeting with the other ops and pilots and looks forward to lots of contacts.  He is also planning a real time QSO tracker similar to what S9OK used on their recent DXpedition.

Many talked about filling many band slots lately with the increased activity. Speaking of band slots, Jerry WB9Z and NV9L are #1 in North America for S9OK band slots worked.

John K9EL will be one of the operators at the VA2UR CQWW SSB multiop coming up in a couple of weeks.  Please look for them and give them some points.

John K9EL is handling the estate sale for WA9EMY.  He will send a link to the group with the available items.

Ft Wayne hamfest is coming up.

Mel NE9A volunteered as a logistics net controller at the Chicago Marathon last weekend.

We were pleased to have CJ WT2P make a presentation of his participation as W0W in the 2021 Missouri QSO party from the county lines of Putnam, Sullivan and Adair.  He presented a slide show of their group operations that began in 2016. CJ says they have the potential for a new expedition class record on 2021 with 918K points! For the entire presentation, watch the meeting video.
