Metro DX Club July 2024 Meeting Minutes
July 19, 2024
We had an in person meeting this month as well as offering a ZOOM option for those unable to attend. The meeting was called to order by our President Patrick W9PDS. In attendance besides Patrick were W9AP. W9ILY, NG9R, K9GA, KC9EOQ, K9DRS, N9TK, WA9LEY. Some attending were via ZOOM.
OLD BUSINESS
MINUTES: Larry NG9R motioned to accept the June minutes, it was seconded by George K9GA and approved.
HEALTH AND WELFARE: No health issues reported.
TREASURER’S REPORT: John W9ILY reports that the Club had no income for the month. Our expenses include a $200 donation to the W9DXCC coffee fund, $14.85 web cost, $200 ARRL insurance, $198.71 Field Day expenses. Detailed Treasurer reports are filed on our groups.io site.
FIELD DAY: The Club had a successful operation in June at Bult Field. Thanks to MEL NE9A for arranging the site. A 50′ fiberglass mast supported 2 Zepps. We used a Fan Dipole for the GOTA station, a 6 meter yagi attached to one of the GOTA masts and a vertical. We lost one of the Zepps when a big storm blew through. Our vertical also blew over. The vertical was reinstalled but we continued on with only 1 Zepp.
Thanks go out to those who helped with setup and takedown and to those who came out to operate.

NEW BUSINESS
OUR MEETING PLACE Bob K9CJ received notice that our meeting place will be undergoing renovation in August with completion unknown at this time. We will need to look for an alternate site.
AUGUST MEETING: This is our annual combined meeting with NIDXA. More details of this meeting will be announced.
George K9GA motioned to adjourn the meeting, it was seconded by Larry NG9R and the meeting was adjourned.
PROGRAM
We were pleased to be joined by Bob W9AP who is the W9DXCC Chairman. This year’s event runs from Friday Sept 13 through Saturday Sept 14 at the Chicago Marriot in Naperville, IL. Registration is now open at

Bob spoke of W9DXCC history and the many seminars and events throughout the day including DX Roundtable, Digital Contesting, Club LOG, Hot Topics at the ARRL, Card Checking, Pileup Contest, DX University, Contest University, a Hospitality Suite and more. There will also be a MFGR forum with Flex and Elecraft looking into the future with Q&A. Multiple prize drawings throughout the day. The 2 major grand prizes are an ICOM7300 and a Flex8400.
Bob expects W9DXCC will be:
- Fun
- Educational
- Offer fellowship with other DXers
- Content, something for everyone.
A drawing was held from those attending for a free W9DXCC registration won by John W9ILY.
